The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a numerical technique for finding approximate solutions to boundary value problems for partial differential equations. In FEA large problems / areas are subdivided into smaller, simpler, parts, called finite elements. The simple equations that model these finite elements are then assembled into a larger system of equations that models the entire problem. This technique gives fairly accurate results when compared with the practical measurements say using strain gauges or similar measuring instruments.

What We do for Our Clients

Following diagram gives the principal stress induced in a thin sheet metal section when modeled and analysed using FEA software. The below part was first modeled using solid modeling package and then imported into the FEA package for carrying out further activities.

Following diagram shows modelling and FEA of simple bracket for easy understanding and while observing it, we realise that the maximum stress is induced at the juction where the web joins the plate and if we strengthen this area, then the design can become very safe in cost effective way.

Following diagram shows modelling and FEA of a thin shell element or membrane. In this this shell element, maximum stress is coming on the web area. To reduce the stess in this area, if it permits then we need to change the shape of this profile so that the center of gravity of this shape shifts and the stress induced due to open section (torsional flexural buckling) can be reduced.

Following video shows the animation of deformation of a racking shelf made from mild steel / low carbon steel. In this video it shows that maximum deformation is at the center of the shelf (which is quite predictable). But before manufacturing the shelf, if we put in stiffeners at right places then this deformation can be reduced to allowable limits and then after actual shelf is constructed, it can be tested to verify the practical results with that of the FEA results and validate the model.
